Book Orders Going Home Today!

Book orders are going home today.  If you would like to place an order, please have it in by next Friday! It is a great way to get discounted book for our little readers!

We are almost finished with our second week of school and the students of room 6 and 7 seem to be settling into our new routine. Your kids are starting to act like second graders.  They are such cuties.  They make me smile everyday.  

This week we started P.E., enrichment, and AR.  For the next few weeks we are doing art for our enrichment. Ms. Sutter has lots of fun activities plained for our second graders.  It's going to be great!

Thank you to all of the parents that came to Back To School Night.  I so appreciate that you took time at the end of your busy day to stop in and see what second grade is all about at GPS. If you were not able to make it on Tuesday, stop in and pick up a unit one study guide.  I look forward to meeting all of you in the next few weeks.

Thursday folders went home today.  Please pull them out of your kids bags tonight.  Some students were given a purple packet of sight words.  If you did received a packet, please be sure to practice with your student at home.

Homework packets for ELA are being sent home this Friday. Please be sure that your student works on his/her reading log each night.  The GPS library is still not up and running, but AR has started. Your student needs to be sure to meet their AR goal each unit.   Points are only earned if they pass the AR quiz.  If your student is not passing quizzes  they need to (A.) make sure they are not reading books that are too hard and (B.) try reading the book more than once before taking the quiz.

Gator Pride In Room 6

We have been learning ways to "show our Gator Pride" all week.  Today the class worked in teams to make their own behavior expectations for our classroom.  They have some great thougths. I am so proud of my Second Grade Gators!

A sneak peak at the cool Lego Robotics enrichment class we are having this year at GPS!  Enrichment classes will start next Wednesday.  Second graders are starting with art, but they will eventualy get to be a Lego engineer!  How cool is that?!?

Off To A Great Start

We have all survived the first two days of school!  Thank you for getting your students to school on time and in uniform.  After just two days with this crop of second graders I can already tell it is going to be an awesome year.  If you haven't already done so, please subscribe to get email notifications of this blog.  It is the best way to get weekly updates about what is going on in room 6.

Class and school newsletters went home yesterday.  If you did not get one, come on by room 6 and we can get a copy for you. 

Homework also went home and is due on Friday.  We are in the process of getting AR started.  Your student should come home with an AR book today or tomorrow.  Please have them read every night.

We are thrilled to be adopting a PBIS (Positive Behavior and Intervention Support) program this year.  A letter will be coming home with more details.  The essence of the program is teaching our students the behavior we want to see and then rewarding them when we see it!  They will be earning gator bucks which will go toward an account and can be spent in the Gator Shop come September.  Look out for the letter with more information.

Thank you to all of the GPS parents and grandparents for the supply donations.  Our supply drawers are nice and full.  Your support means so much to us.

School Starts On Monday!

It is hard to believe, but school will be starting up bright and early on Monday moring. Please have your students in the quad by 8:00.  I hope you parents can join us for the morning message.

Class lists are posted on the class list page of the blog.  They are also posted on the school gate. We will be lining up according to our class, so be sure your student knows where to go.

Second grade will be in room 7 (math) and room 6 (ELA).  We have a wonderful new second grade math teacher that I can't wait for you all to meet!

Remember, school gets out at 1:05 all week.
